Digitizing Your Photos – Don’t Be Shortchanged

Where's the quality control??

My family is on the short side. In fact, if you lined up my kids, my husband, all four of our parents and me, there would be little variation in height – except for my son.

Last week, I used a national photo service to print a batch of pictures. All of the files I uploaded were in good order. When the prints were mailed to me, one of them made me laugh out loud – it was a picture of my son with our family flanking him – and the edge of the photo trimmed at his chin.

Although it looked funny, the blunder reminded me that photo and digitization service companies are often highly automated. I’m sure no one inspected this print and compared it to the original file – and at the deeply discounted cost, I wouldn’t expect them to.

Rather than feed your photos through a machine, at Beyond the Trees we carefully digitize each photo by hand using a professional-grade scanner. If we see a speckle of dust or a slightly off-angle pose, we are happy to make minor adjustments. We literally give them the “white glove treatment” and cover our hands to eliminate fingerprints. Digitized photos are returned to you on a flash drive, ready to load onto your computer.

Our experience ranges from digitizing thousands of photos for downsizing homeowners to scanning antique documents and books. Most of the time we digitize clients’ beloved family photos so they can be preserved, shared among relatives, or used in memory books.

We’ll make sure you aren’t shortchanged!

This photo really made me laugh, but I’ll be much more aware of the limits of those services. I had ordered a pricey graduation photo of my son and it was mailed in a flimsy paper envelope – no cardboard or anything to protect it! Of course, it arrived bent. Nice to know that Beyond the Trees offers top quality service and experienced handlers!
