Reading "My Father's Banjo" by my sister Jan Mueller brought back some great memories of our wonderful Dad. I love reading Jan's writings because of her ability to express her thoughts and feelings so well. She will truly enable our many wonderful family memories and stories to remain alive and be passed down to our children and future generations.

I remember that song as well--Dad continued that singing tradition even though I was too young to be included in the famous "Lemmons Sisters" harmonies! Thanks for sharing this wonderful memory, Lin! You are so right--these little things have made us who we are and will always remain with us, just as Mom, Dad, and Jason are always with us!

Awesome family memories! I remember Dad playing his guitar and singing a song he had made up called "Who"s that walking down the street(repeat down the street 3X) It's little(he"d then insert one of our names) She's so sweet, she's so sweet, she's so sweet. We always loved when it was our name he would say! He'd play guitar and Di, Sue and I would harmonize.....we thought we'd one day go on the Lawrence Welk Show as the "Lemmons Sisters" Such little things in our lives that have made an imprint on who we are in this life and will be forever etched in our hearts and minds!

Thanks for your gracious comment, Paula! We were definitely missing dear Mary at our Christmas Eve dinner this year. But, as you so beautifully noted--all of our loved ones who have left us live on in our memories of them! I am also grateful for the brilliant example of creativity and inspiration you share with all who are fortunate enough to know you, Paula!

As a member of a much smaller and more dispersed family, these tales of family gatherings and storytelling make me a bit wistful this holiday season, especially with my older son away for the holiday. I love nothing more than being with my mother, sisters and their families, reliving holidays past and enjoying each others' company. But, since that is not to be this year, I have decided to treasure instead my chosen family, my collection of dear and wonderful Cincinnati friends, many of whom are also far from family now. We are building new holiday traditions, including classic Christmas movie marathons, Christmas Eve Bengals games, and as many holiday gatherings as we can fit in. Your family needn't be related by blood, and this holiday I am thankful for all my "sisters and brothers".
